Tiroler Lech Nature Park
.... a piece of breathtaking nature with impressive scenery.
If you asked a child to draw a river, most would draw an almost straight line on a sheet of paper. In point of fact this drawing these days relates to the almost the true image of European rivers. You would have difficulty finding a river in Europe without constructions and power plants.

Nevertheless if you want to experience and discover a river close to nature, then there is one address that you have to keep in mind, the
.... Tiroler Lech Nature Park.
In sections here you will find a dynamically branched out and wild river, the River Lech. Looking at it gives you an idea of how a large powerfully intact river looked in times past. The value of this unique wild river landscape, the riparian zones and the lateral feeder areas have been recognised and placed under protection.

Since 2004 the nature reserve of Tiroler Lech has been an officially recognised nature park, whose natural area is characterised by the wild River Lech. With an area of around 41km2, the nature park is located in the northern Kalkalpen (Chalk Alps), embedded between two mighty mountain ranges – the Lechtal Alps in the south east and the Allgäu Alps in the north west.
The Naturpark Tiroler Lech extends over Steeg down river to Vils and due to its natural conditions is one of the most beautiful and traditional landscape areas of the Alps. Since it has not been tampered with a great deal, the Lechtal is one of the last remaining Alpine river valleys in Austria which is close to nature. Outstanding natural treasures make the region unique and worthy of protection!

It is not just the totality of the landscape which represents a distinctive feature in the Naturpark Tiroler Lech, the species rich flora and fauna emphasises the significance of the area. The nature reserve is the last refuge for many rare and specially adapted animal and plant species.
